1. Tuition, Payment Options & Fees
All tuition and fees must be paid in Canadian dollars.
Deposits
- Diploma Programs: $250 non-refundable deposit
- À la carte courses / workshops: $50 non-refundable deposit
Deposits are required to secure your spot in any program or course.
Payment Options
Students may choose one of the following payment methods:
- Pay in Full
- Full tuition is paid upon registration
- Financing Through Square
- An open invoice will be issued to you
- You may apply for financing directly through Square
- Approval and payment terms are determined by Square
- In-House Payment Plan (Case-by-Case)
- Only available for Diploma Programs longer than 3 months
- Offered only if financing through Square is not approved
Conditions:
- Payment plan duration cannot exceed the length of the program
- All payment plans begin on either the 1st or the 15th of the month
Important:
- If a payment is missed, the payment plan will be automatically cancelled
- The remaining balance will become immediately due as an open invoice
- Failure to pay may result in removal or withdrawal from the program
This is a courtesy option. We are not able to follow up or chase missed payments.
Administrative Fees
A $150 administrative fee will apply for:
- Program changes
- Switching payment methods or plans
- Any requested modifications to your enrollment or payment structure
Late Payments
- A $45 late fee will be charged per month
- Applied starting 3 days after the due date
Certification Requirement
- No diploma or certificate will be issued until full payment has been received
2. Cancellations, Withdrawals & Refunds
Deposits
- All deposits are non-refundable, as outlined in Section 1
- This applies to all programs, courses, workshops, and custom packages
Diploma Program Withdrawals
Students may withdraw from a diploma program by submitting written notice via email.
Refund Policy – Diploma Programs
Within the First 2 Weeks of the Program:
- Students may withdraw within the first 2 weeks from the program start date
- Tuition paid will be refunded minus:
- The non-refundable deposit
- A $150 administrative fee
After 2 Weeks – Up to 50% of Program Completion:
- Tuition will be recalculated at full à la carte pricing for all courses attended
- Any discounts received for enrolling in a full program or bundle will be removed
- The student will be responsible for the adjusted balance
- A refund may be issued only if there is a remaining credit after recalculation
After 50% of Program Completion:
- No refunds will be issued
- The full remaining balance is still owed, regardless of withdrawal
Workshops & À La Carte Courses
- Deposits remain non-refundable
Cancellations:
- Less than 48 hours notice → No refund or credit
- More than 48 hours notice:
- If paid in full, the student may choose between:
- A refund, or
- A credit toward a future course or workshop
- If paid in full, the student may choose between:
Important Notes
- The withdrawal date is based on the date written notice is received
- Missed classes are not refundable
- Failure to attend does not qualify as formal withdrawal
- All balances must be paid in full regardless of completion status once past the 50% mark
3. Academic Exemptions & Course Credit
Students who have previously studied at another massage therapy school, college, or university may be eligible for course exemptions.
To be considered, students must provide:
- Official transcripts
- Course outlines or syllabus
How Exemptions Work
If an exemption is approved:
- The student will not be required to complete exams or assignments for that course
- The student may still be required to audit (sit in on) portions of the course, especially where content is specific to massage therapy
For example:
A student who has completed college or university-level Anatomy & Pathology may not need to retake the full course. However, massage-specific components, such as Palpation Clinics, are still required and must be completed.
Financial Adjustments
- Approved exemptions will result in a reduction of tuition, based on the discounted value of the exempted course(s) within the program
- Any non-exempt portions of the course (such as practical or massage-specific training) must still be completed and paid for
4. Enrollment Requirements
To enroll, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing English
- Possess a high school, college, or university degree, or demonstrate sufficient and appropriate life experience for the chosen program
- Complete the online registration form
- Pay the full tuition fee, or a non-refundable registration deposit
Students agree to follow the school’s general and financial terms upon enrollment.
Online students must have:
- A computer
- A working Google account
- Reliable internet for video classes
5. Progress, Evaluation & Grading
Students are expected to actively engage with course material in order to gain the full benefit of their training.
Evaluations (exams, assignments, and practical assessments) are used to:
- Track student progress
- Ensure competency in each subject
- Confirm readiness for professional practice
All diplomas, certificates, and course completions are based on meeting required evaluation standards.
Grading System
Ecole Setsuko uses a Pass / Fail (P / F) grading system.
- Some instructors may use numerical grades during the course
- Final results will be recorded as:
- Pass (P)
- Fail (F)
Passing Requirements
To successfully pass a course, students must:
- Achieve a minimum of 60% (Pass) on all required evaluations
- Complete all required assignments, exams, and practical components
Online Course Requirements
For online courses (such as Anatomy & Physiology):
- Students are required to complete weekly quizzes
- Quizzes must be completed on time and each week
Important:
- While these quizzes may not count toward the final grade, they are mandatory
- Failure to complete weekly quizzes will result in:
- The course needing to be retaken, and
- No certificate being issued
Program Progression
- Students must receive a Pass (P) in all prerequisite courses before moving to the next level
- All required courses and clinics must be passed in order to graduate
Important
- If required work is not completed, the school cannot confirm competency
- This may prevent:
- Course completion
- Progression to the next level
- Graduation
6. Attendance & Participation
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes and fully participate in both theoretical and practical components of their training.
Attendance
- Students are responsible for attending all classes and staying up to date with course material
- If a class is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to catch up on all missed content
Participation Requirements
- Active participation is required in all classes
- Students must be prepared to both give and receive treatments as part of their training
Missed Time & Make-Up Requirements
- Missed classes or training may impact a student’s ability to successfully complete the program
- The school may require:
- Additional practice
- Additional evaluations
- Make-up time (subject to additional fees)
Important
- Attendance and participation are required to meet competency standards
- Failure to attend or participate may result in:
- Incomplete training
- Delays in progression or graduation
- Additional required hours or evaluations
7. Certification & Graduation Requirements
To receive a diploma or certificate, students must meet all program requirements.
Requirements for Graduation
Students must:
- Successfully complete all required courses
- Receive a Pass (P) in all evaluations
- Complete all required practical and clinic hours
- Meet attendance and participation requirements
Financial Requirement
- All tuition and fees must be paid in full before:
- Diplomas or certificates are issued
Completion Standards
- The school must be able to confirm that the student has met all competency requirements
- If requirements are not met:
- Certification will not be issued
Important
- Partial completion of a program does not guarantee certification
- All components of the program must be completed successfully
8. Code of Conduct
Students are expected to maintain a professional, respectful, and safe environment at all times.
General Behavior
- Students must treat instructors, staff, and classmates with respect and professionalism
- Disruptive, disrespectful, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated
Professional Standards
- Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to a professional healthcare setting
- This includes:
- Proper communication
- Respect for personal boundaries
- Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for others
Hygiene & Presentation
- Students must maintain proper personal hygiene
- Clean clothing and appropriate attire are required for all classes, especially practical sessions
Professional Boundaries & Conduct
Massage therapy training involves hands-on practice where students may be in vulnerable positions, including being undressed under proper draping.
Because of this:
- Sexual remarks, jokes, flirting, or inappropriate comments are strictly prohibited
- This includes:
- Comments about someone’s body
- Sexual jokes or suggestive language
- Any form of body shaming
Students must understand that:
- Behavior that may be acceptable in a personal or social setting is not appropriate in a professional training environment
- As a student, you are beginning to develop your professional identity and practice, and are expected to act accordingly
Harassment, Discrimination & Safe Environment
- Sexual harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances
- Discrimination of any kind is strictly prohibited, including based on:
- Religion
- Gender
- Sexual orientation
- Background or identity
Ecole Setsuko is a fully inclusive school and is committed to providing a safe, respectful environment for all students.
Classroom Environment
- Topics such as politics and religion must remain outside of the classroom
- These discussions can create division and are not appropriate within the learning environment
School Authority
The school reserves the right to:
- Issue warnings
- Require corrective action
- Suspend or remove a student from the program
In cases of serious misconduct:
- Immediate removal may occur without refund
9. Liability & Student Responsibility
Students participate in all practical and hands-on training at their own responsibility.
Assumption of Risk
- Massage therapy training involves physical activity and hands-on contact
- By enrolling, students acknowledge and accept the risks associated with participation
Health & Personal Responsibility
- Students are responsible for:
- Monitoring their own physical condition
- Informing instructors of any injuries, limitations, or health concerns
- Students should seek medical advice if unsure about their ability to participate
Consent & Professional Boundaries
- All practical work must be performed with clear communication and mutual consent
- Students must respect:
- Personal boundaries
- Comfort levels during treatments
Failure to respect consent or boundaries may result in removal from practical training or the program.
Hygiene, Safety & Allergies
- Students are responsible for maintaining proper hygiene and cleanliness during all practical work
- All tools, equipment, and workspaces must be used in a safe and sanitary manner
- Students must communicate any:
- Allergies
- Sensitivities to oils, products, or materials
Liability
- Ecole Setsuko and its instructors are not liable for injuries or damages that may occur during training, except in cases of gross negligence
Compliance
- Students must follow all instructor guidance and safety protocols during training
- Failure to do so may result in:
- Removal from practical activities
- Disciplinary action
10. Policy Acknowledgment
By enrolling in any program, course, or workshop at Ecole Setsuko, students acknowledge and agree to all school policies.
Agreement
- Students confirm they have:
- Read
- Understood
- Accepted
all policies outlined in this document
Responsibility
- It is the student’s responsibility to:
- Review all policies prior to enrollment
- Ask for clarification if anything is unclear
Binding Agreement
- Enrollment in any program or course constitutes a binding agreement to these terms
- These policies apply for the full duration of the student’s enrollment
Policy Updates
- Ecole Setsuko reserves the right to update or modify policies at any time
- Students will be notified of any significant changes
